The Last Days of JFK
Tour Overview
Travel back into the momentous last days of President John F. Kennedy, as we explore the turbulent world of November 1963 that changed Dallas – and America – forever. With Dr. Andrew Torget as our guide, the tour begins at Hotel Texas (today's Hilton in downtown Fort Worth), where Kennedy spent his last night and the site of his last public and private speeches. While exploring the historic grounds of Kennedy's final public remarks, Dr. Torget will set the scene of the early 1960s and the unprecedented circumstances that brought the President and Jackie Kennedy to Texas. Following Kennedy's route to Dallas, we will then enjoy a guided driving tour – narrated by Dr. Torget – of the famous motorcade route that took the President and Mrs. Kennedy past tens of thousands of admirers on their way from Love Field to Dealey Plaza. For lunch, we will stop in Dallas's Historic West End, where we will enjoy a private catered meal. Following lunch, Dr. Torget will lead a personal walking tour of Dealey Plaza, the Grassy Knoll, and Kennedy's final moments. Afterward, we will visit the remarkable collections and exhibits of the Sixth Floor Museum (including special exhibits on the Seventh Floor). Finally, we will follow the route used by Secret Service agents to rush the President to Parkland Hospital, before the tour culminates with Dr. Torget tracing the enduring power of John F. Kennedy's life and legacy as we return to Denton.
