Historic Fort Worth
Tour Overview
Step into the fabled history of cowboys, desperados, and cattle barons that transformed Fort Worth from a tiny frontier village into the modern icon of the Old West and the American cattle industry. With Dr. Andrew Torget as our guide, we will follow the famed Chisolm Trail into Fort Worth's historic downtown for a walking tour of "Hell's Half Acre," the notorious red-light district whose saloons and brothels became the stomping ground for Western legends like Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid. After our tour of the Acre, we will enjoy a private catered lunch at the famous Cooper's Old Time Pit BBQ, where they've been cooking cowboy-style over mesquite coals since 1962. Following lunch, Dr. Torget will lead us on a private walking tour of the world-famous Fort Worth Stockyards, where we will visit the original site of the Yards, discover how the Swift and Armour companies transformed the Yards into the "richest little city" in America, hear the remarkable history behind the Livestock Exchange and the Cowtown Coliseum, all while enjoying stories of cowboys, cattle barons, and luminaries from Amon Carter to Theodore Roosevelt.
